Imagine No Malaria

Though Manchaca UMC’s missionary in the Democratic Republic of Congo retired, MUMC has not forgotten about Africa. An emphasis on eradicating malaria was a focus for late 2009 and 2010 as part of the United Methodist Church led Imagine No Malaria campaign. MUMC raised $7,241 in late 2009 in support of the Imagine No Malaria pilot program dedicated to the eradication of malaria in Sierra Leone.

The Imagine No Malaria campaign followed the Summer 2009 Vacation Bible School Nothing But Nets mission project, which provided malaria preventing mosquito netting to Africa.

When disaster strikes and the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) calls on Methodists to help, Manchaca UMC responds. After the devastating 7.0 earthquake rocked Port-au-Prince, Haiti on January 12, 2010, MUMC organized and put together 400 health kits and sent them through the Southwest Conference of the United Methodist Church to the UMCOR Sager Brown Depot for distribution in post-quake Haiti, in addition to collecting a special offering of $6,253 for UMCOR Haiti disaster relief.

Altar Rail Offerings

Throughout the year, altar rail offerings are collected to support various international outreach, including Africa University, One Great Hour of Sharing, and the international missionaries named above. The Manchaca UMC Missions Commission has supported a variety of international ministries not previously mentioned; such as helping the Russian Methodist Church send educators to Central Texas to attend a training workshop and supporting the education of four children in a Mexico border community.
