Easter Baptism

Just as Lent prepares us for Easter, Lent is also an excellent season to prepare for Christian Baptism. Baptism is the Sacrament of Christian initiation.  It signifies new birth, adoption, identity, and participation in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.  United Methodists respect three modes of baptism: sprinkling, pouring, or immersion, and honor all rites of baptism performed by Trinitarian Christian faiths.  As such, our clergy do not “re-baptize.”

Within the United Methodist Church, the Sacrament of Baptism is available to youth and adults who are prepared to make a profession of Christian faith and to infants and children of professing Christian families who pledge to raise the child within the life of the church (children of active church members).  Individuals baptized as infants and young children participate in confirmation after age 12, taking personal responsibility for their Christian faith at that time.

We are currently preparing to offer the Sacrament of Baptism on Easter Sunday (April 20) and again on Confirmation Sunday (May 18).  If you have questions about baptism or desire baptism for yourself or one or more of your children, please contact Pastor John Feagins at pastorjohn@manchacaumc.org or by telephone at (210) 326-4996 to arrange a visit.
